I put together this tonneau cover buyer’s guide to help some people find what they are looking for in a truck bed cover.
When buying a tonneau cover for your pickup truck, one of the first things you should do is ask yourself, what do I use my truck for? By this I mean do you use your truck bed often, do you carry high cargo loads or low loads below the truck bed rails or do you use your truck bed very seldom. Are your pockets deep or like many others shallow and you need an inexpensive cover. Do not just go out to buy a tonneau cover because you seen one on another truck and it looked great. That truck may have a cover that takes time to open and that would be no good if you use your truck bed often. Below I will throw some of my personal ideas at you just to get you thinking.
Inexpensive:
If you are looking to get a one that protects your cargo but is inexpensive or so called cheap, The Mile Maker by Tonneau Masters is about the cheapest you will find with runners up the Slant Side also by Tonneau Masters and the Seal N Peel and Snap Soft both by Lund Genesis.
Quick Roll Up:
You may want to get at your truck bed quick and easy but still want to keep the price down, I would suggest the Extang Express. This is a great cover if you use your truck bed but not continuously.
Inexpensive and fast:
If you are looking for one that is inexpensive but allows you very fast access to your truck bed I would suggest the Hinged Tonneau by Lund, the hinged Slant Side by Tonneau Masters or FullTilt by Extang. These are all great products, if you use your truck bed often and want quick, easy access to your truck bed and you are carrying low loads.
Inexpensive, Quick and High Loads:
You are trying to keep the price down but you need to be able to get at your truck bed fast, often and maybe with high cargo loads. If this is you then a soft folding bed cover would be a great way to go. The Extang Trifecta or the Trifold by Lund. These lids fold open allowing you to drive with them open for full access to your truck bed when hauling higher cargo loads.
For a more expensive product and more security for your cargo I will make the following suggestions.
Easy access:
If you use your truck bed often or just want a truck bed cover that can be matched to your trucks paint, the fiberglass hinged lids by Gaylords will do very nicely as long as you aren’t carrying high cargo.
Easy Access and Higher Loads:
The Bakflip by Bak is an ABS plastic folding tonneau which is very popular. Reds Beds make a folding aluminum diamond tread plate cover which will give you great security and full access to your truck bed quickly and easily.
For a class all on their own, not cheap, allow you quick access to your truck bed and open up completely allowing you to carry higher cargo loads any time.
Retractable Tonneau Cover:
These covers retract into a canister behind the cab of your truck. Pace Edwards has the Roll Top, JackRabbit, Full Metal JackRabbit and even one that opens and closes electrically with a remote called the Bedlocker. Bak offers the RollBak and Truck Covers USA offer their American Roll.
If you are not concerned about access to your truck bed they are many more tonneau covers available in roll up, with snaps or with velcro to secure them.

Extang are a leader in their field of manufacturing soft tonneau covers. They seem to be the manufacturer of the most different model soft covers on the market today. In my opinion they are still in business because they provide quality products at a reasonable price.
Extang produce everything you could want from roll up covers such as the low profile of their RT to snap up, velcro sealing system to folding lids as well as a hinged tonneau cover.
To briefly describe some of the products they have to offer I will start with their lowest price truck bed cover to their most expensive.
The Black Max is one lower price covers on the market today. It comes with a aluminum powder coated black frame and a snap up tarp which is adjustable for all seasons.
The Tuff tonneau III is the next in line price wise. This truck bed cover is a snapless lid that seals together using Extang’s J45 peel and seal system. They use a rotating tail rail that tightens up the tarp. This tarp also uses the spring loaded monster bows.
Next comes the Classic Platinum. This has an all aluminum frame which installs with clamps that are included. Extang boasts this cover to be made of an all-climate nylon and polymer tarp with stainless steel and brass snaps.
The Saber is next on the list which uses a peel-on design which attaches evenly to the entire frame to ensure the lowest possible fabric stress even during high speeds.
The tool box tonneau cover is a snap up lid with a leather grain black vinyl tarp. This tool box tonneau accepts a tool box between 18 and 21 inches deep. This is a no drill installation with and all aluminum frame and adjustable snaps to keep your tarp snug in different climates.
The RT and the RT Tool box models come at the same price. The RT low profile sits nearly flush to your truck bed. This cover rolls up quickly along with the bows to give you quick access to your truck bed. The RT has adjustable controls by the cab. It has a Velcro sealing system and secures your cargo with a locking rail. The tool box edition accepts a 20 inch tool box.
The next product they have to offer is a hinged tonneau called the Fulltilt. This one comes in both snap and snapless editions. The snapless is a few dollars more. This cover has hinges back by the cab and lifts up from behind on gas shocks. You can lift it up or roll it up or remove it without tools easily. This tonneau cover also comes in a tool box edition.
Another one Extang can be quite proud of is their Trifecta which is a folding tonneau cover. This truck bed cover folds up in sections from the back towards the cab giving you complete and easy access to your truck bed. This cover comes fully assembled and ready to mount on your truck.
The express model was designed to be just what the name implies, fast. Customers asked Extang in their reviews for fast and they gave them what they wanted. It rolls up or closed with integrated bows very quickly. The frame is a strong black anodized aluminum. The strong vinyl tarp seals with industrial strength Velcro.
If you are looking for a soft tonneau cover whether it is a roll-up, snap or snapless, hinged, folding or a tool box edition, Extang has you covered.

When asked recently “What tonneau cover would fit a Honda Ridgeline?” I really had to dig but there are a few covers that fit the bill. First of all not being familiar with the Ridgeline by Honda I had to investigate. The Honda Ridgeline looks sort of like a cross between an SUV and a pickup truck. I certainly am not knocking this vehicle I think it looks absolutely great. Unfortunately at the time I wrote this article there are not a lot of tonneau covers manufactured to fit this pickup truck. I do hope that changes in the near future.
The first and my favorite for the said automobile that I did find is the BakFlip folding tonneau cover by Bak. This is a lockable hardtop tonneau cover made from an ABS plastic laminated over a honey comb core for extra strength. This tonneau cover allows you quick easy access to your truck bed by folding up in sections and when folded back all the way, it protects your rear window from large loads. The cover is easily removed by loosening a couple of wing nuts. This cover would add a great look to an already great looking automobile.
The next tonneau cover I found for the Honda Ridgeline is the Lo Pro soft roll-up truck bed cover by Truxedo. This soft roll-up tonneau has no snaps, it uses large velcro loop system for great sealing. This tonneau cover has a patented tension control so it will keep a snug fit on your Honda Ridgeline in all types of weather conditions. The Lo Pro rolls up and out of the way for easy access to your complete truck bed.
The last tonneau I found to fit the Honda Ridgeline was the Access Roll-up tonneau cover. The roll-up by Access also uses a hook and loop system to seal the tonneau. This cover uses an easy dial tensioner to keep the tonneau snug. The frame of this tonneau is made from aluminum and everything rolls up quickly to get at the bed of your Honda Ridgeline.
Whatever your choice is you will be getting a quality tonneau cover with any of these three truck bed covers. There are not a lot of tonneau covers for the Honda Ridgeline but these three would all look great on this pickup truck.

Why is the Mile Maker tonneau cover by Tonneau Masters even worth writing about? Well there surprisingly quite a few reasons. Not all of us have deep pockets with a thick wallet. The Mile Maker tonneau cover by Tonneau Masters is a very economically priced tonneau cover. This truck bed cover must be the lowest price tonneau cover on the market today.
You have the low price for our shallow pockets but are we getting anything for our few but hard earned cash. The Mile maker tonneau has a tough vinyl tarp with fully sewn edges and reinforced corners to keep your tonneau cover snug and long lasting. The snaps that seal the tonneau are made from stainless steel to keep them from rusting.
For this price you must think all you get is a tarp but the mile maker also comes with an all aluminum frame to support your tarp. This will help keep the rain and snow from sagging your tarp. The mile maker tonneau cover installs easily with no drilling by the use of clamps which are included with your purchase. The tonneau rolls up easily to give you quick access to your truck bed.
From everything that I read about this tonneau, people who have purchase this tonneau are very pleased with the look, the way it fit and how easy it was to install. They all loved the price. Some said the instructions were not the greatest and step by step images would be a great improvement, but they still had no problem installing the mile maker tonneau cover.
If you are looking to get all the advantages of most soft tonneau covers, which includes giving your truck a great new look, with today’s gas prices we all want to save gas, protect your cargo from the weather or even protect delicate items from getting torn apart from higher speed winds. Protect your cargo from thieves by keeping it out of sight out of mind. If you are looking to get these advantages at a price anyone with a pickup truck can afford, I would suggest the mile maker tonneau cover to fit the bill.

The Extang Fulltilt tonneau cover has had so many personal good reviews it is hard to top. So many people who had purchased this cover were so pleased, it is hard to believe. They loved the function ability of it. They were ecstatic that it lifts on hinges with the aid of gas shocks. Lots of people loved the ability of being able to roll it up to accommodate a high load. It is also very easy to remove the lid completely if one feels the need. Many were very pleased with the quality of the Fulltilt.
There were a few problems such as some people had to add extra weather stripping along the cab end or the tailgate end. Most said the instructions were easy to follow but some said throw the instructions away because they are useless. Lots of people said their cargo area stayed dry even through long drives in the rain at highway speeds. Some said their cargo area did receive some water in similar situations. I myself think that you should take the time to make sure you have adequate weather stripping, this could solve this problem.
Even with the few problems, people were very happy with their purchase. The quality, the price, the look and the gas mileage they gained, to mention a few of the positive things. Just a little heads up but some actually contacted Extang about some problems such as the gap between the cover and the tailgate and the Rep for Extang sent them something to remedy the problem. Those customers were quite happy with the service they received.
Let me give you a brief description of the cover with some of its features. The cover is hinged at the cab and equipped with gas shocks. You can order it with snaps or with “peel & seal” J-Channel tongue and groove closure. The Fulltilt has an aluminum frame with spring-loaded bows. You are able to roll the tarp up or use it on its hinges. This lid also comes available in a toolbox edition.
If you are looking for easy access to your truck bed with hinges and the capability to roll the tarp up, I give this Fulltilt tonneau cover by Extang both thumbs up for quality and service.

Flooded Vehicle - is considered, a vehicle that was damaged by water level raised to seating level. Most flood damaged cars, trucks and SUVs are sent to a salvage yard, but some are cleaned up and put into the auto market where they’ll be bought by unsuspecting buyers who think they’re getting a great deal.
Flooded water leaves long lasting damage. Electrical and mechanical components will probably fail early. Mold and mildew can also create a serious problem. Any remaining warranty is voided. While buying a used car be on the lookout for these cars even if you don’t live in a flooded area, because dishonest people move them around. Here are some tips and points to detect flooded vehicles.
I) Get a Vehicle History Report Enter the vehicle’s VIN number to get a history report. Carfax does a great job of researching a vehicle’s background, but a clean slate is not a 100% guarantee that the car or truck hasn‘t suffered water damage. You can also contact CarSnaps and ask them for advice or request a vehicle background report.
II) Look for Moisture. Look for moisture within the lights. Check the glove compartment, console and trunk and inspect them for any sign of dampness moisture or the dirt that looks like a leftover from a flood. Look under the hood for accumulated dirt or signs of rust. Check under the seats for signs of moisture.
III) Take a deep Sniff This can really help in detecting flooded vehicles. Do you smell a sour, mildewy-like odor? Soaked seats, carpeting and other components are difficult to dry in a hurry, so there’s plenty of time for mold and mildew to grow, especially if the flood occurred in a hot and humid location.
IV) Look for Mismatched Interior Components Does the carpeting look brand new or mismatched or too new for the vehicle? Do seat covers seem out of place with the carpeting? Components that don’t match-up might have been changed in a hurry after the vehicle was pulled from flood waters.
V) Request free advice from CarSnaps Contact CarSnaps.com and request free advice from their qualified technicians who are there to help and it is free so there is nothing to lose.
VI) Let Your Technician Examine the Vehicle Take the vehicle to a technician if possible and ask for a thorough examination. Experienced auto technicians see evidence of flood damage more often than most individuals do, so they know exactly what to look for.
VII) Turn it On and Go for a Drive Turn the car on and check every electrical system possible, including the exterior and interior lights, the gauges, the clock and the audio system and the dash lights that display air bag and seat belt information. Go for a drive and test electrical components again to make sure they work correctly. 90% of the time you will be able to suspect an electrical problem with flooded vehicle unless it is repaired or electrical parts are not damaged which is very rare though.
Flooded vehicles should be avoided as much as possible even if seller tell you about the manufacturer warranty because warranty voids when a car goes through a flood. If you suspect a flooded vehicle walk away from it. Flooded vehicles are not worth the hassle they provide.

With the augmenting prices of gasoline these days, managing fuel costs has become quite difficult for an ordinary man. However, one cannot keep the costs under control; he may go along with a few gas saving tips and tricks to improve the fuel consumption.
The first gas saving tip is associated with the car engine. Revving engine before turning it off should be avoided as it results in the expenditure of fuel. Moreover, idling the engine for prolonged durations has a negative affect on the fuel consumption. Warming up the engine for 35-40 seconds is advisable for saving gas.
Buying the gas skillfully may also contribute towards the recovery of the fuel cost problem. Gasoline should be purchased during early morning or evening because of being highly dense at the respective times. Furthermore, it should not be filled to the top of tank as it results in spilling over, thus draining a considerable amount of gasoline.
Changing one’s ways of operating a vehicle and altering motoring habits may also lead to effective gas saving. Driving the car at 55 mph results in a better gas mileage while use of 5th gear is recommended. Traveling at a high velocity with low gears should be avoided. Moreover, keeping air conditioner turned off while driving also improves the gas mileage.
Besides these, driving on straight roads and avoiding twists and turns conserves the gas. Brakes should not be pumped too often while the gas pedal should be pressed lightly. Carrying heavy loads in the car’s dickey should be obviated. Regular servicing of the car is necessary and the tires should be frequently checked for air pressure. Frequent examination of the chassis parts and the air filters is also commended. Above all, use of the lowest octane gas and a suitable fuel saver such as Tornado fuel saver plays a significant role in gas conservation. Tornado fuel saver functions as a gas-saving tool and can be used in a car, SUV or a truck.
The above-mentioned gas saving tips and tricks will surely benefit the driving enthusiasts. However, if any sort of assistance is needed, CarSnaps customer support is there to lend you a hand. Alternatively, you can start a thread in the Automotive Forum for seeking any kind of advice concerning gas saving techniques.

The helmet is probably the only thing that can save the person who is involved in an accident. This is because the outer shell is made of strong material that can probably withstand the impact of a collision.
When people buy a helmet, putting it on the head won’t keep it from coming off if the biker stops suddenly or goes too fast. The only way this can be prevented is having the right lock securing the straps from one end to the other.
The right helmet lock should be the kind that has two rings that fasten together. This is because snap fasteners have a tendency to come off during an accident.
If the dealer doesn’t have a helmet that can fit the size of the owner’s head, the one the person got should be brought to a decal dealer so the original locking mechanism can be replaced.
Once this has been changed, it will be a good idea to wear it on for the next 30 to 45 minutes. The individual should shake the head from one side to the next or look up then down to make sure it won’t come off and is securely fastened.
If everything is ok, the bike owner can already leave the store and enjoy driving down the open road.
The right lock for the motorcycle helmet may come in black, blue or any other color that the customer wants. This will usually sell for about four to six dollars a piece that can also be purchased online for almost the same price.
People who know how to put on the lock after purchasing the item online can do the changes at home. Those who don’t can ask a friend or family who are familiar with motorcycle helmet straps for help.
The person must remember to change the motorcycle lock after a few months or a year since this is prone to wear and tear. The same thing goes for the helmet that should be changed every 5 years.
The motorcycle helmet is the only thing that can protect a person who is involved in a motorcycle accident. This may not protect the other bones in the body but this can surely protect the owner’s head. It is essential then to get the right kind of lock for the helmet because this could mean save the individual from serious brain injury or death.

A lot of these tonneau covers have been sold. Probably because they are inexpensive and they give you great access to your truck bed just by folding up the three piece design. The trifecta is custom made to fit the make model and year of the vehicle it is intended for. This cover is made of heavy duty vinyl sewn to an aluminum frame. This particular cover uses spring clamps to latch closed at the tailgate. It is kept secured with straps whiled opened up to the cab. You can drive with it opened or closed. This tonneau cover is shipped fully assembled and installs quickly and easily with no drilling. You get a 10 year tarp warranty and lifetime on the frame. Of course as with other lids it improves fuel mileage. So if you want quick easy access to your truck bed and without the heavy cost of a retractable, this cover is probably for you. Although security isn’t as good as a retractable, it does keep your cargo out of sight out of mind. If you have an over the rail bed liner you will probably have to do some minor cutting to get this cover to fit.
What others are saying about the Extang Trifecta Tonneau Cover!
No stretching, no snaps and completely removes in less than five minutes. You can’t beat that…. A great cover that is easy to install and use, their may be possible paint damage along the bed rails after time due to wear and tear…. Everything is great about this cover including cost, installation and quality, that is why I have purchase my second and third one…. Super easy to remove and put back on. As for looks about an eight on a scale from one to ten. Easy to install and sturdier than the Torzo…. One person complained the cover didn’t quite completely cover the stake holes, about a half inch left but still praised his cover…. Another person loved his tonneau cover but had complained about two missing clips. After then receiving the clips one bolt stripped quite easily but was overnighted a new clip…. Someone was very happy with their cover but said they had to buy extra weather stripping to go behind on the bed rails below the rear window…. This person speaks he did a lot of checking around before buying. The fit was good and it literally went on in 5 minutes no problems except… The rear spring clamps would not stay clipped up inside the aluminum arch rails. when you folded cover up, the clamps would swing down toward the cover unless a person on each side held them up. Extang is aware of problem and after 3 calls to them he ended up crimping the rails tighter together as they suggested to remedy the problem…. One person says he had this cover on his Tacoma for 3 weeks now and it works flawlessly and it was great with very little or no leaking in very hard rains. It has even been said that it stayed cool under the tonneau after being in the sun all. There were a few complaints on how after a while there was a little puffiness where the Extang trifecta tonneau cover folded. One person gives this advice “Be sure to follow the directions on the bars that warn you about the clamps. They should be clipped into the bars and as far to the sides as possible before folding the cover to avoid damage.”
In Summary
Hey come on. If you your hinge is covered with the soft material you are bound to get some puffiness. I just wanted you to know what to expect. Over all most people who purchased this tonneau absolutely loved their cover and how easy it was to install and the price they paid for it. A few did not like it because they thought it was very light weight, cheaply made so to speak. Others called this a benefit. They were after having snap up covers and loved how easy it was to get access to their truck bed with the trifecta. Some were after having a fiberglass tonneau and loved this one because it was so light and easy to take completely off. Many people have commented on how dry their bed was staying after hard rains. Just think about what cover will suit you as far as how and what you use your truck bed for.
