I was checking out a friend’s new car a couple weeks ago when I noticed that he had one of those cool auto navigation systems in it. I had seen those things in rental cars before, but hadn’t actually known of anyone that had one. I asked him to take me out for a ride so I could see how it worked. Since he wanted to show off his new wheels anyway, he quickly agreed.
I kept my eyes on the auto navigation system the entire time we were on the road. My friend excitedly explained how the thing worked. Apparently, he had purchased a top of the line GPS auto navigation system that tracked the car’s position using satellite. I watched the map closely, and sure enough, it was as correct as could be.
I mean, we would pass a landmark out on the side of the road while the on screen map was showing the exact same thing. I asked my friend how easy it was to find new locations using these auto navigation systems. He said all he had to do was type in an address or phone number using the touch screen menu, and the shortest route would appear within seconds.
I decided there and then that I had to check out some auto navigation systems for my own car. When I got home, I immediately logged onto the Internet to do a bit of research. I still didn’t know very much about these devices, so I wanted to read a few auto navigation system reviews before spending my money. I wanted to know which brands packed the most features into each unit, which brands had the best prices, and which brands had the most favorable consumer reviews. I was able to find all of this information quickly and easily, which made shopping for an auto navigation system as peacefully as I could have hoped.
After I was satisfied that I knew enough about auto navigation systems to make an informed decision, I went ahead with my purchase. I was even able to find a website that specializes in selling auto navigation systems for much less than the retail price. I got a fantastic deal on the model I wanted, and ended up saving hundreds of dollars.
I’ve only had my auto navigation system installed for a short time, but it’s already helped me out quite a bit. I’ve been able to avoid traffic, find shorter routes to the places I visit regularly, and save me money by alerting me to alternative exits when I’m driving on tollways. All in all, I can’t imagine ever driving without one of these auto navigation systems to guide me when I’m out on the road.

Can you remember taking trips by car trying to read those directions while trying to drive? Or perhaps you carried a bulky atlas or relied on your own intuition to get you where you wanted to go. Fortunately, your driving experience can be better now. Times have changed and GPS automobile navigation systems are readily available and perfectly capable of taking you wherever you want to go. Newer automobiles come complete with GPS systems built in but you can purchase a system separately for any vehicle you own.
Before even pricing a system, you’ll want to look into how easy a system is to use. If you find a system that’s too complicated to use, you’ll never be able to operate it within your vehicle, especially when driving. Nothing is more dangerous than trying to program your GPS system while on the fly. Try to find one you can use easily and that can be programmed with just a few touches of the buttons. A GPS system with a big display is important, too. If you find that the display is too small or the directions too complicated, this won’t be a user-friendly GPS system and you’ll want to look for another one.
GPS systems vary in the degree of precision they offer. You’ll want to find a system that gives precise directions that will take you where you want to go and that will update itself whenever new roads are built or when construction will change your driving route. Check to make sure that your system is capable of receiving regular updates and turn down one that isn’t capable of updating changes over time. You may find a system that receives regular updates or choose one that updates manually – such as before you start your trip.
GPS navigations systems are available at specialty stores, electronic stores and online. Make sure you shop around for a price you can afford and ask questions about your new system before you actually buy one. In some cases, there may be a monthly or yearly fee for updates and other services and you’ll want to know about those kinds of things in advance. Some models have extras, including mp3 players and the like. Look to see if the model you’re interested in has any of these types of extras. Check out how accessible the directions are and whether the GPS system you’re evaluating gives voice directions as well as visual directions. Often the screen is not visible in direct sunlight so the voice directions may be all you have to work with. Some models have different screen modes for daylight and nighttime viewing.
Some cell phone services offer the option of getting directions to wherever you want to go right on your phone and you may not choose to spend your money on a separate GPS system you don’t really need. The cell phone service often costs extra but it may be your best option if you don’t do a lot of traveling and only need to find your way occasionally.

Do you ever get lost? You know, maybe you’re looking for that friend’s new place, and you take a wrong turn and end up in the middle of nowhere. This is a rather common scenario that happens to the best of us. We all lose our way every now and again. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone stops and asks for directions. Some of us hate to stop at the random gas stations or pit stops to get that much-needed heads up on how to get to our destination.
And this is why we often carry on driving around, circling aimlessly. Oh and of course, act like we know what we’re doing. Well, fortunately these days there are simpler ways to deal with this common dilemma. Ever heard of the new car navigation systems or GPS? I’m sure everyone has by now. Probably the best thing since slice bread.
Does your vehicle have one of those car navigation systems? Although this option is rather choice on some of the newer cars, it can be a little bit on the steep side. The good news is you can buy a GPS system separately and then choose to use it whenever or wherever you like. Garmin is currently one of the top sellers of portable and car navigation systems.
I bought one from Wal-Mart for a couple hundred dollars. While this may sound expensive for some, trust me it’s a purchase you’ll be glad you made. Just last summer I had to make a trip into the heartland. Okay, maybe not everyone knows what the heartland is; therefore if you’re not privy to this vital information, the heartland is Iowa. Anyway, I decided to take my nice little GPS system on this road trip and it turned out to be a life saver.
I basically programmed the start and finish point addresses into the navigation system and it told me where to go. And when I say it told me, I mean it literally told me out loud! Many of these contemporary car navigation systems talk to you, which proves wonderful on the road. This way you don’t have to worry about having to look down to read the map half the time.
Car navigation systems run off a satellite signal and works like a charm just about anywhere on the planet. If you’re in search of a modern GPS system, then it’s imperative to look online. The Internet is loaded with car navigation systems to suit anyone’s needs. Make sure you get up to speed with a new navigation system at your side.
