Women are buying newer, bigger and more expensive vehicles, according to a survey conducted by Car-Buy-Her, an automotive resource that provides business and consumer education and training.
A small sampling survey of 36 women from across the nation revealed typical responses and showed that age, profession and family status has little to do with the types of cars women are looking for.
Survey results found four-doors as the most popular with women with vans and sport-utility vehicles dominating. When asked about reasons for purchase, interior room was cited as the most popular reason when making their purchase.
Women not wanting to be the “minivan†mom tended to choose the SUV. Besides interior room, women said they choose their purchased based on perceived value. With no way to actually determine the true value of their deal, the survey does suggest that women are doing some kind of research prior to buying.
Purchases were most likely made before the recent oil crisis, so it is not surprising that fuel economy was the least used determining factor when making a purchase.
The women surveyed were not driving around in brand new vehicles — most of the respondent’s owned 2001 or older vehicles, suggesting that while these women were moving up in the car world, they either bought used or have had their cars for a while. The survey reveals today’s car-buying woman to be very practical. [PRWEB]

Hummer of Kansas City announced a Hummer Certified Pre-Owned vehicle program. The new program will offer the same premium commitment to quality and service as a new vehicle but with a lower price tag. Under the Hummer Certified Pre-Owned program, vehicles will be available in dealer showrooms this month and will serve as an extension to the Hummer brand and current lineup.
For a previously owned Hummer to become a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle it is tested to meet Hummer’s stringent standards and undergoes a rigorous 100+ point inspection. In addition, vehicles must be less than 48 months old, driven fewer than 50,000 miles (2006 models) with no serious accidents or body repairs (costs exceeding one-quarter of the automobile’s market value at the time of repair).
“Certified Pre-Owned Hummer vehicles offer buyers the opportunity to get all the iconic styling and off-road prowess of a Hummer at a price that better fits their budget,†said Susan Docherty, Hummer general manager. “These vehicles provide consumers with the confidence of a new vehicle with the affordability of one previously owned.†[PRWEB]

(QT Auto News) — While American auto manufacturers experienced dismal November sales, total American Honda and Acura sales increased 6.4 percent over last year to 105,860. Honda’s primary growth was due to Honda truck sales followed by car sales.
Honda’s Civic sales were strong in November increasing by 18%. The 2006 Civic was recently announced by Motor Trend as the “Car of the Year.†Both this announcement and higher gasoline prices may have accelerated sales.
Honda’s Acura line suffered in both car and truck sales. Sales of the Acura MDX dropped nearly 32% compared to 2004 November sales. One would expect that with higher gas prices, SUV sales would drop. Yet, Honda’s Pilot, an economized version of the MDX, showed a sales growth of 9.8%

(ARA) – When they first came out, light-duty trucks and sports utility vehicles (SUVs) were purchased primarily by farmers, ranchers, builders and tradesmen who had jobs to get done. Today, they are so popular they’ve actually surpassed passenger cars as the vehicle of choice for most Americans.
Among the biggest selling point, they’re roomier and have more versatility than cars. You can travel comfortably while at the same time hauling cargo or towing a trailer. Because they are bigger and heavier than passenger cars, they are safe; and since they sit higher, also offer better visibility; but unless you’re six-feet tall, climbing in and out of them can be a challenge.
It is for that reason that running boards are one of the most popular accessories on passenger trucks and SUVs, and they have a lot more benefits than you may think. “In addition to making the vehicle easier to get in and out of, they also provide a place to kick off sand in the summer and snow in the winter and allow you to reach the windshield and top when you’re washing it. They also improve the vehicle’s overall appearance,†says Jay Lusignan of Lund International, an automotive accessories company.
Running boards are available in a variety of finishes and come in numerous lengths and designs. You can get them for just about any make and model of SUV or truck. The Lund brand offers ten different designs in its multi-fit line which attach to your vehicle using customized brackets. “If there’s an available bracket that fits your vehicle, any of these multi-fit boards will work,†says Lusignan.
Another accessory where form meets function is the window vent. A set of these will dress up your car’s exterior while at the same time making the interior more comfortable for passengers. They allow you to put the window down slightly to let fresh air in while keeping the heat, rain and snow out. These are great for people who spend a lot of time on the road.
So are hood shields. Not only do they redirect the bugs away from your windshield, they protect the hood from nasty stone chips. They work by redirecting the wind flow, so instead of heading directly towards the windshield, the air flows slightly upward, pushing an insect or rock up and over the windshield. With even one such scratch averted, a bug shield can pay for itself, as some of these scratches can be very costly to have repaired. A bug shield can also save you time on road trips. They eliminate the need for you to stop at the gas station every few cities to wipe bugs off your windshield.
