Having the battery warning light on while you drive the car entails serious problem, it can make your car stall and leave you stranded. This happens when the car suffers a broken alternator belt or having a bad alternator.
Alternator is one part of your car that charges your car battery and provides electrical power to make the car accessories function. Now, when the battery warning light comes on while you’re driving then it indicates that there is problem related to the alternator that probably makes the alternator not to function properly. The warning lights serves as the warning on the driver that there is problem.
As mentioned, the problem is either a broken alternator belt or bad alternator. When the alternator belt broke down the alternator will stop generating electricity because it will stop form running and the lights will lit on. Likewise when the alternator gone bad same thing will happen electric power will not generates.
If the battery warning light activates while you drive the first thing to check is the alternator belt or the alternator. Locate those parts under the hood and inspect its condition. Check if the alternator belt is intact. If the belt is intact have the car towed to the shop for checking on the alternator and replace if necessary, if the alternator cannot be repaired and need to be replaced consider replacing it with a rebuilt one since it is more cheaper than the new one. When the belt is damage just replace the belt to fix the problem. Anyway to avoid this kind of break down you have to follow the car maintenance schedule recommended by your car dealer, by subjecting your car to preventive maintenance you can avoid breaking down of alternator belt since the dealer will know when the belt is needed to be replaced.
