Cayman to Launch You 0-60 in July ’06

According to Don Rosen Imports, Porsche will launch a base version of its Cayman sports coupe priced at $49,400 in Europe and the United States on July 29.

Just like the more powerful Cayman S, it is derived from Porsche’s Boxster but the new model will this time share the soft-top roadster’s same mid-mounted 2.7-liter, six-cylinder engine instead of having its own.

The Cayman S was positioned to fit between the Boxster S and Porsche’s base 911 Carrera, the new Cayman will perform similarly to the Boxster but have the fixed roof of its more powerful sibling the Cayman S.

The base version Cayman will deliver a little extra horsepower of 245, allowing it to reach a top speed of 160 mph and finish the 0-62 mph sprint in 6.1 seconds. By comparison, the base Boxster’s top speed is 159 mph and it requires 6.2 seconds to hit 62 mph from a standstill.

In the Porsche Cayman S, Boxster S’s 3.2-liter flat six has been upped to 3.4 liters for duty in the Cayman S, and power has been upped accordingly to 295 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, increases of 15 hp and 19 lb-ft.

The Cayman also gets stiffer springs, thicker anti-roll bars, different front-end styling, and new bodywork aft of the doors. The biggest difference, however, is in the driving. According to Porsche, the new steel roof doubles torsional rigidity; the handling and chassis communication are better than ever. [PRWEB]

Scoot Around High Gas Prices

Diamo USA is giving drivers freedom to “Go Places” this summer. Today, the company announced that it is renewing the gas promotion it pioneered in 2005. Diamo USA will provide buyers one free year of gasoline with the sale of every 2006 Diamo scooter and motorcycle.

Scot Steffy, Diamo USA national sales director, said, “Drivers don’t have to feel guilty or discouraged any more. Our products provide a stylish and powerful transportation alternative that is easy on the wallet.”

All Diamo scooters and motorcycles are equipped with ample storage space that enables riders to easily commute to work, school and run errands. With most Diamo brand scooters and motorcycles averaging 60 miles per gallon, frustrated drivers no longer have to dig deep into their wallets to get around – or out of – town.

Thirty-seven percent of consumers say gasoline prices are so high they are looking at replacing their current vehicles with more fuel-efficient vehicles, mainly hybrid models, according to the latest Consumer Reports Auto Pulse Survey conducted this month. Diamo motorcycles and scooters have ample space and power for both a rider and passenger as well as personal items, making these vehicles an ideal transportation alternative. [PRWEB]

NASCAR Driver Deborah Renshaw to Moderate AskPatty.com

When my sister bought her first car by herself she paid the full sticker price. What she didn’t realize was that car prices are negotiable unlike the prices you pay for clothes in a Department Store. If AskPatty was online several years ago, she could have simply asked a question and without embarrassment get an honest and straight answer.

AskPatty is a Website where women (and men) can ask any automotive question and get an answer from a panel of automotive experts headed by NASCAR driver Deborah Renshaw.

As part of her automotive advisory role, Renshaw will respond online to questions from consumer women regarding their automotive needs. “Ask Patty is what consumer women have been waiting for – a safe online place to get advice before they visit their local car dealerships,” states Renshaw. [PRWEB]

While negotiating the price for a used car or getting a quotation by some advisor of AskPatty, the inclusion of car audio system, fittings of other accessories and any new installation of new switches must be taken into account. A used car can be easily jazzed up with the inclusion of the gadgets of your own choice. The addition of woofers and sirius satellite radios can give your driving experience a whole new feel.

Bluetooth® Helps Take a Bite out of Car Crime

A new car security system that identifies car owners through the Bluetooth element of their mobile phones is set to revolutionise the fight against car thieves. Auto-txt immediately identifies a car as stolen if the car is started with the keys but the mobile phone is not present. This unique feature allows a Bluetooth enabled device, such as a phone or PDA, to authenticate the vehicle owner, providing an enhanced level of security.

Auto-txt incorporates Bluetooth Intelligent Serial Modules from London based company, EZURiO, which pair with the driver’s mobile phone to provide a second “key” for the car. EZURiO has been working with Auto-txt in developing and refining the implementation of Bluetooth wireless technology.

Chris Cole, Engineering Director of Auto-txt, says: “The use of Bluetooth wireless technology underpins the Auto-txt system, enabling us to provide increased security for drivers and help in the fight against car crime.”

“Working with EZURiO has been great as the team there were able to provide both the technical support we needed and a Bluetooth module that works reliably across the range of available Bluetooth mobile phones and PDAs.”

Auto-txt is the first stolen vehicle protection and tracking system to have been awarded Thatcham’s Category 5 accreditation, the new insurance industry standard that is supported by the police. Thatcham is the motor insurance industry research centre which aims to develop research and standards which contain or reduce the cost of motor insurance claims.

Auto-txt has been selected by Jaguar Cars and Land Rover to supply car tracking and security systems for all their vehicles from 2006. The systems, called Jaguar Watch and Land Rover Watch, will be available in the UK and across Europe. It is the first time the prestige car manufacturers will be offering a stolen vehicle tracking system in their own name.

Auto-txt, which is available now for car owners, has been developed by the RDM Group, a Coventry based automotive supplier that has just raised funds of £4.75 million to further develop and roll out the system.

Auto-txt is the latest of a wide range of innovative solutions in the automotive industry that EZURiO has enabled with their Bluetooth modules. EZURiO’s modules offer exceptional ease of use and performance, along with the environmental requirements that are vital for the automotive sector. [PRWEB]

High School Students to Drag Race for $20,000 in Scholarship Money

Over 800 high school students from across the Midwest will drag race for a portion of $20,000 in scholarship money to the University of Northwestern Ohio. The 18th Annual ACDelco High School Nationals presented by Amalie Motor Oil at Norwalk Raceway Park will feature high schools competing against each other for bragging rights, and students racing for their educational future.

This annual race is unusual in a few ways, including a rule against real racecars. Students compete in street-legal cars only.

Last year’s winner, Drew Elliot, of Bellville, Ohio, won the event in 2005, taking home a $10,000 scholarship. Runner-up Robert Reid of Pataskala, Ohio took home a $5,000 scholarship.

Norwalk Raceway Park hosts the fastest cars on the planet each year, from 330 mph Nitro Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters, to jet cars at mind numbing speeds. But for Norwalk Raceway President Bill Bader, Jr., the High School Nationals is a great chance to teach safety and responsibility to a captive audience.

“The High School Nationals gives us a splendid opportunity to teach a captive audience about the safety and responsibility of racing on the drag strip,” Bader said. “Plus, it is a great chance for students to earn a large amount of scholarship money to a great institution, the University of Northwestern Ohio. GPS Technology Tracks Your Car

GTES announced today that it has released the latest update to the SHERLOC Hosted Location Services, adding support for the SVR-200 GPS tracking device.

The SVR-200 combines a high-performance SiRFstar GPS engine with wireless linking via the ReFLEX two-way data network, and provides extremely competitive pricing for both the hardware and the airtime services.

“In discussions with our customers we identified a number of applications requiring a lower-cost hardware platform combined with reduced operating costs,” stated GTES Vice-President of Marketing and Business Development Mark Pocock.

“We believe that the SVR-200 price point will attract both consumer and business operators who want to enjoy the security and efficiency benefits of on-demand vehicle tracking, but had considered previously available solutions too expensive to justify.”

GTES Sherloc GPS Automotive TrackerThe SVR-200 is a 12-24V vehicle tracking device which supports scheduled or on-demand location reporting, geofences, background tracking, speed and motion alerts, external I/O connectivity, and is available with service plans for the US or Canada.

When used in combination the SHERLOC, web-based tracking service, the SVR-200 provides the means for subscribers to determine the current location of the vehicle either on-demand or on a regularly scheduled basis.

Alerts can be sent to a cell-phone or email account, notifying subscribers when the vehicle speed exceeds a programmable threshold, enters or exits a defined geographic area, or is stopped for more than a configurable length of time.

Visibility of the vehicle location and behavior increases security, reduces operating costs, and improves the efficiency of fleet management.

“We’re pleased to add the SVR-200 to the suite of tracking solutions we offer,” stated GTES President Russ Allen. “SHERLOCâ„¢ is already gaining strong acceptance in the security industry.

“With the unique combination of performance and value afforded by the SVR-200, we are looking forward to addressing the vehicle tracking needs of even our most cost sensitive customers.”
