(QT Auto News) In sunny Southern California, we rarely experience heavy fog that warrants changing driving habits. But in other parts of the country, fog is common and can cause dangerous driving conditions.
Fog can limit visibility to as little as 20 feet. When this occurs, you should pull completely off the road until conditions improve. Turn on your emergency indicators to signal other traffic of your condition.
The roads are slick during foggy conditions so you should slow down to a safe speed. Use your speedometer to check your speed since without visual indicators, you may actually be traveling faster than you think you are.
When caught in the fog, use low-beam headlights or fog lights. This prevents reflection of light off of the moisture particles in the air. At all costs, you want to slow down until conditions improve.
